Rumor: Apple Will Hold Fall Media Event on September 7th, 2011

Kodawarisan, a Japanese Mac website, offers the first specific date for Apple’s fall media event today.

According to the report, the usual iPod media event is very likely to be held on Wednesday, September 7th. AT that event, Apple will release a new line of iPods. And the iPhone 5 is also “likely to be announced” then.

Apple has traditionally held their Fall media events in the first part of September with the past three events taking place on September 1st, 2010, September 9th, 2009, and September 9th, 2008. Last year’s event introduced new iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle models.

In May, photos of a part allegedly for the seventh-generation iPod nano have fueled rumors that Apple may add a 1.3-megapixel camera to the device. The supposed leak came on the heels of a separate unverified photo purportedly of an iPod nano frame that emerged in April.

Usually, Apple would update the iPhone in the summer during WWDC, and release the new iPod at the September media event. However, there is no iPhone update at WWDC this year. So we will see whether the new iPhone 5 will be released at the September event. Apple’s suppliers are said to begin shipments of the iPhone 5 in September.

The iPhone 5 is expected to sport the A5 processor, as well as an 8-megapixel camera. Recent leaked case designs purportedly for the iPhone 5 that have popped up in China suggest that the externals of the device have been redesigned to include curved sides.
