Apple Brings the iOS 5.0.1 Update to Fix iPhone 4S Battery Drain

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 5.0.1, the anticipated update designed to fix multiple unspecified bugs that drained the iPhone’s battery much faster than expected.

Apple did not spell out the specific battery-related patches, saying only “Fixes bugs affecting battery life” in a short list of the update’s contents.

Apple disclaims eight hours of talk time and six hours of internet use via 3G, with standby time of up to 200 hours.

One buyer claimed his iPhone 4S battery life drains at 15 percent per hour while locked and on standby. Another said battery drained 10 percent in 12 to 15 minutes after using iMessage.

To do an over-the-air update, select the “Settings” app on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, then touch “General” and finally “Software Update.”

Let’s Wait for the Coming of the New iPhone on October 4th

In recent months, all kinds of rumors about the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S were in flood. Everyone is guessing when the new iPhone would come out. Finally Apple tells us the release date is October 4^th today.

Today Apple issued media invitations for a special iPhone event to be held next Tuesday, October 4th at the company’s Town Hall auditorium at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific Time.

The invitations for the event carry the tagline “Let’s talk iPhone” and depict iOS icons for Calendar, Clock, Maps, and Phone.

The iPhone 5 is expected to include an 8MP camera, an aluminium case back, an expanded screen size and 1GB RAM. Wilder suggestions include finger print scanning, NFC payments technology, 4G connectivity and a (pfff) slide-out keyboard, but a dual core A5 chip like the one in the iPad 2 should also work its way into the new iPhone.

And according to AllThingsD, new iPhone 5 will go on sale “within a few weeks” of the unveiling announcement, meaning US punters may get their mitts on the new device mid to late October.

Besides of the release of the next-generation iPhone, this media even is expected to also be including a minor update to its iPod line. iOS 5 and iCloud are also expected to be topics of discussion at the event.

Camera

There’s a five element lens in the iPhone 4S instead of the four element in the iPhone 4, face detection and an 8-megapixel sensor. There’s 60 per cent more pixels, a larger f/2.4 aperture and an advanced hybrid IR filter that produces sharper and brighter images. Power and battery

The iPhone 4S has a slightly better battery life than the iPhone 4: up from 7 hours talk time on 3G to 8 hours. However, standby time is a cited 300 hours for the iPhone 4 but strangely this is 100 hours more than the iPhone 4S.

Storage

The iPhone 4S is still available at capacities of 16, 32, and 64GB. And the 16GB and 32GB version of the iPhone 4 line have been axed from this moment on, meaning that anyone who opts for the older model from new is limited to a rather small 8GB storage space only.

Wireless and data

The iPhone 4S boasts both GSM and CDMA capability, meaning it can be used on virtually any network across the globe. And iPhone 4 is separated into GSM version and CDMA version.
